Professor ShahNor Basri

Professor ShahNor Basri is interested in advanced materials, aircraft aerodynamics and computational mechanics. Research areas include functionally graded materials; aeroelasticity; nonlinear and hybrid estimation modelling, and structural dynamics and nonlinearity. Professor ShahNor's educational areas include advanced composite, dynamics and vibration, estimation, and aerodynamics systems with an emphasis on experiential learning projects.
 

He joined the Bioengineering and Technology faculty at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) in 2016 and is currently Professor of Mechanical Engineering and also serving as the Assistant Vice Chancellor (Development). Prior to UMK, Professor ShahNor was a Dean and Professor at the Universiti Malaysia Pahang (2010-2015) and Head of Department and Professor of Aerospace Engineering at the University Putra Malaysia (1990-2010). A graduate of University of Wales, United Kingdom (B.S., PhD), Professor ShahNor worked on High Speed Lubrication Theory 1990. Professor ShahNor spent his 1995-96 sabbatical year as a Visiting Scientist at the Dept. of Precision Engineering, Kyoto University, Japan, and as a European Commission International Fellow (1999-2000), working at the Osney Laboratory, Oxford University. 

Professor ShahNor has received a number of teaching awards including University Putra Malaysia Awards (1994, 1996, 1998) and the Universiti Malaysia Pahang Award (2011). Professor ShahNor has delivered several keynote addresses at conferences, and received best paper awards from the IEM (2004,2011), Numerical Methods in Engineering conference (1994), and best poster award at the International Symposium on Distributed Autonomous Robotic Systems (2012); he also received the European Commission and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Fellowships. He is currently a Member of the AIAA, and Fellows of Academy of Sciences Malaysia and Islamic World Academy of Sciences (2016), and as an Associate Editor for the Engineering Journal and the International Journal of Mechanical Engineering and Technology.
