Prof. Ouahes was born on January 4, 1937 in Algeria. He is married with 4 children.
After his primary and secondary education in Algiers, he attended the Lycee Chaptal (Paris) and won access to 2 major French “Grandes Ecoles”. He attended the “Ecole Normale Superieure”, Saint Cloud, France, where he obtained a BSc and a Higher Studies Diploma in Chemistry. He succeeded in “Agregation” in Chemistry, 1964, and got a State Doctorate, 1970. He is fluent in French, English and Arabic.
Prof. Ouahes held the following positions: Assistant Professor (1965-1969); Associate Professor (1970-1973); and Full Professor (1973-1983) at Algiers University (Algeria).
Administrative positions: Director of Chemistry Department, Algiers University, 1965-1969; Director of Scientific Research, Ministry of Higher Education, 1971-1976; Director General of “Organisme National de la Recherche Scientifique” 1973-1975; Director of the “Solar Chemistry Laboratory” 1979-1983; Adviser of the “Conseil National Economique et Social,” 1968-1976; and Director of Human Resources, Energy and Information (1984), Islamic Foundation for Science, Technology and Development (IFSTAD), Jeddah.
He is member of several scientific committees in Algiers, a corresponding member of the World Federation of Scientific Workers (London); he is author or co-author of over 60 publications including: physical chemistry studies; solar chemistry and energy studies; reports; public conferences papers, etc.; and owns two patents on Solar Stills.
He authored 4 books of chemistry for students.
He is a Founding Fellow of the Islamic Academy of Sciences (1986).
