HAYAT, Tasawar (born in Khanewal) PhD, Distinguished Professor, accomplished researcher, teacher and a prolific scholar has made lasting contributions towards the developments of pioneering and diversified nonlinear models in the physiological world, especially related to blood circulation problems, fundamental homotopic solutions in the theory of non-Newtonian fluid mechanics, and seminal work on wave scattering for noise reduction by absorbing barriers in an urban area. His ideas interrelating certain dynamic properties in peristalsis with magnetohydrodynamics, compliant nature of the boundary and modification in Darcy’s law for the non-Newtonian fluids and original methodology in homotopy analysis for the nonlinear differential equations has had a major impact.
His research has been widely cited globally. His national and international recognition is evident by his research publications, memberships of committees at national and international levels, leadership and motivation, research projects, presentation of seminars, establishing linkages with the international leading Universities, national and international awards and human resource development. His research has resulted in 560 papers; 556 in international refereed journals including 210 in USA and 168 in UK; over 500 international ISI journal publications, 33 conference presentations and 45 seminars.
He refereed over 50 national and international research projects, was principal/co-principal investigator of 7 research projects and is associate editor/member editorial board for 15 international journals and referee for over 70 international journals. He has successfully supervised 18 PhD and 72 MPhil students and is currently supervising 9 PhD and 8 MPhil students. His leadership in academics is further reflected through established research collaboration with 42 international leading scientists, over 600 impact factor, 5590 citations, 37 h-index, some highly cited publications and membership of several institutional bodies and societies.
He popularized mathematics through published papers, convened international conferences, seminars, establishment of leading research groups in the country and abroad, and personal achievements. He has visited many prestigious institutions the world over.
Prof. Hayat is the first Pakistani Mathematician to be awarded the prestigious Alexander Von Humboldt fellowship. It is pertinent to mention here that he is the youngest fellow of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences and the youngest Distinguished National Professor of Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. He has received 15 international and 12 national awards and honors. These include Research Productivity Allowance every year, Silver Medal in B.Sc (1988), M. Raziuddin Siddiqui and Pakistan Academy of Sciences Gold Medals (1999, 2006), Abdus Salam Prize (1999), Young Scientist Prize by Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, Italy (2000), Alexander Von Humboldt Fellowship, Germany (2000), Associateship of Abdus Salam ICTP , Italy (2002), 17th Khwarizmi International Award (KIA), Iran (2004), 17th KIA ISESCO International Prize (2004), Tamgha-i-Imtiaz and Sitara-i-Imtiaz by President of Pakistan (2005,2010), Best University Teacher Award (2005), Honorary Professorship at University of Witwatersrand Johannesburg and Northwest University Mafikeng, South Africa (2007, 2008), Who is Who in Science and Engineering and Who is Who in the world, USA (2008, 2009), Adjunct Professorship at International Islamic University, Pakistan (2008) and University Technology Malaysia, Malaysia (2010), Productivity Allowance as a Best Researcher in the country (2008), Visiting Professorship at University Technology Malaysia, Malaysia (2009) and King Saud University, Saudi Arabia (2009) and Distinguished Scientist of the year (2010) award by Pakistan Academy of Sciences. According to the latest ranking of the Pakistan Council for Science and Technology (PCST), he has been rated the topmost mathematician and (from 2008 to 2010) best researcher in the country. COMSTECH has also declared him the 5th topmost mathematician in the productive scientists of all the OIC countries.
In 2011, Prof. Hayat was elected to fellowship of the Islamic World Academy of Sciences.
