Prof. Daffe was born in 1957 in Sofara, Mali.

He obtained a BSc (1977), an MD in Biochemistry (First class) (1979) and a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology (1982), all from the University of Paul Sabatier in Toulouse, France.  He obtained excellence awards throughout his studies (including the awards: Best Student of the University of Paul Sabatier (1981), and Best Thesis on Leprosy (1982)).

He is currently Director of Research at the Institute of Pharmacology and Structural Biology CNCS, France, one of the well-known laboratories working on the Biochemical and Structural Characterisation of the Cell Wall in Mycobacteria.  He has more than 15 years of research experience in this field, and has been invited to deliver numerous talks at seminars, scientific meetings and international conferences.

Prof. Daffe was elected as a Fellow of the IAS in 2001
