Gulnar R. Vagapova D.Sc. (Medicine), professor, Corresponding member of TAS was born in 1964. Dr. Vagapova is the head of the Department of Endocrinology at Kazan StateMedical Academy.
Prof. Gulnar R. Vagapova graduated Kazan State Medical Institute in 1987. In 1996 she became a candidate of science; in 2007 she became a Doctor of Science. The main scientific results were obtained in the field of basic and clinical thyroidology. The central place is occupied by work on the study of the pathogenesis of autoimmune thyroiditis, the use of Doppler ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging for differential diagnosis of thyroid diseases.
Prof. Vagapova defined relationship between the content of the DNA-binding antibodies in the serum and the degree of activity in autoimmune inflammation of the thyroid gland. For the first time for the visual evaluation of the mechanism of interaction of antibodies to native DNA isolated from serum of patients with autoimmune thyroiditis, and native DNA molecules used atomic force microscopy.
Currently, under the guidance of Prof. Vagapova conduct studies to determine the genetic markers of programmed cell death in patients with autoimmune thyroiditis, acute criteria for prediction of vascular complications of type 2 diabetes, prognostic criteria of thyroid dysfunction in patients undergoing coronary angiography, developed algorithms for diagnosis and treatment of tumors of the adrenal, pituitary adenomas studied epidemiology in RT ; work on evaluation of the criteria of quality of care patients with diabetes in the RT, study the condition of the thymus in the fetus, etc.
Prof. Vagapova - author of 116 publications, more than 10 works translated and published in international journals. The scientific results were presented at the national and European congresses. 32 scientific reports made from 2005 to 2010.
Prof. Vagapova is co-author two patents for the invention. In 2009, patent number 2320990 "Method for detection of antibodies in the serum" was awarded the Diploma of II degree at the contest "Invention of the year in the Republic of Tatarstan".
The project "Transseptal transsphenoidal microsurgical removal of pituitary adenomas with endoscopic monitoring," which was developed with direct participation of Prof. Vagapova in 2008 was awarded the Diploma of I degree of the Program "The Best Goods of the Republic of Tatarstan - 2008" Diploma of the Program "100 best goods of Russia" and in 2011 was awarded the US-Russia Business Union medal «Innovations for investments».
Under the guidance of Prof. Vagapova holds three theses for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences.
Prof. Vagapova is a member of the editorial boards of journals, "Nevrologicheskiy Vestnik" (Journal of Neurology), "Prakticheskaya Meditsina" (Practical Medicine) and member of the Academic Council to review issues of GOU DPO "KGMA Roszdrava", Scientific Secretary of the Public Organization endocrinologists of RT, Scientific Adviser of the Republican program "Improving quality of care for patients with diabetes mellitus in the Republic of Tatarstan", Scientific Adviser, the reviewer of various scientific papers, masters and doctorate.
