Prof. Liaquat Ali was born in 1957 and is currently the Vice-Chancellor, Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS) and Honorary Professor, Dept of Biochemistry & Cell Biology. He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Medical Biochemistry from Dhaka University and PhD in Medical Cell Biology from the Uppsala University in Sweden. Prof. Liaquat served as the Vice-Chancellor, Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS) and Honorary Professor, Department of Biochemistry & Cell Biology since January 2013.
Prof. Ali is a Vice-President, Bangladesh Society of Medical Biochemists since 2011 and General Secretary, Bangladesh Endocrine Society since 2009. He is a Fellow in the World Health Organization (1987-88), Fellow of the International Program in the Chemical Sciences (IPICS), Sweden (1988-90), Fellow of the International Foundation for Science (IFS), Stockholm, Sweden (1992-94) and Fellow of the National Science and Technology Division, Ministry of Science and, Govt of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh (1995-97). Also he is a member of the European Association of the Study of Diabetes, EASD, Life Member, Bangladesh Endocrine Society, Life Member, Bangladesh Society of Medical Biochemists and Life Member, Bangladesh Medical Association. Prof. Ali was awarded the IAS-COMSTECH Ibrahim Memorial Award in 2013.
He has edited a number of scientific journals and magazines and has over 180 journal citations in addition to many books published. He was elected as an IAS Fellow in 2016.
